What is Reseller Hosting?
Reseller hosting is selling someone else’s server for a profit. Typically the person that is acting as the reseller is the middle-man. There are three categories that reseller of web hosting fall into. Depending on the company the reseller is working with, one or more of these three categories may be offered.
Categories of Reseller Hosting
- The person acting as the reseller acts as an agent for the company providing the web hosting. The web hosting service is marketed by the reseller as being with the web hosting company. Individuals interested in signing up for the web hosting services through the reseller do so directly with the web hosting company and the reseller gets a portion of the sale.
- The second category of reselling hosting is very similar to the first. The reseller acts as a marketer for the web hosting company. The difference is when a person purchases web hosting services , they purchase the service directly with the reseller, but any further contact regarding the web hosting service is with the web hosting company, not the reseller.
- The third category of reselling hosting is most different from the other two categories. The reseller acts as the web hosting company, dealing with billing, managing the server (depending on the reseller package), manage resources and provide support to the customer. The reseller may even have the ability to ‘rebrand’ what the customer sees, such as the CPANEL layout.
